About

Kestryl Cael Lowrey is a queer trans butch performance artist, writer, and educator.   Ze has taught and performed internationally at conferences, colleges, community centers, festivals, and local theatres. Hir work has been produced in theatres across the USA. Ze holds an MA in Performance Studies from New York University, where ze focused on queer theory and trans performance. Whether on-stage or behind a podium, ze considers it hir artistic duty to engage hir audiences in provocative dialogue without letting them take hir (or themselves) too seriously.

Hir full-length solo performances include XY(T), 348, and RADCLYFFE: The Completely Honest and Mostly True Story of Victorian England’s Second Most Notorious Invert.  Kestryl Cael wrote and directed the queer drama, Lez Miz, bringing the classic story of Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables into a queer 21st century retelling. Ze has written commissioned work for the “My America” project by CENTERSTAGE (Baltimore).   As a member of The Language of Paradox, a performance ensemble directed by Kate Bornstein, Kestryl participated in collaborative performance creation and community-driven storytelling.

In addition to hir full-length plays, Kestryl Cael creates variety performance and drag shenanigans, inspired by whatever obsessions and fixations have captured hir current fancy. Ze is currently based in the eastern United States, but travels and performs internationally.
